The 6th Year of Agility3 – the biggest yet?

Once again, as we stepped over the threshold into July we at Agility3 celebrated our company birthday, you may have seen via our social media pages that we treated ourselves to a HTC Vive! It was a special occasion after all as this time we turned the big 5 and we move into our 6th year of operations!

It’s crazy to think that it was a year ago that we had just moved into our new farm office. The past 12 months have flown by and have been as busy as always working with existing and new clients. Throughout the year we have tried to keep you up to date with what we’ve been up to via our Twitter and LinkedIn pages but, in case you’ve missed any of it, here are a few highlights.

Project: Virtual 3D Greenwich Environment

Customer: TRL

One of the big projects we delivered earlier in our company year was the virtual 3D environment of the Greenwich Peninsula that we developed for TRL as part of their £8 million autonomous vehicle project, GATEway. The highly realistic virtual environment was used within TRL’s DigiCar driving simulator as part of an investigation into the way that humans behaved when sharing the road with autonomous vehicles. The results of this fascinating trial can be seen here along with our own case study on the project which you can view here.

Project: GHOST

Customer: DSTL, as part of an Inzpire-led team

GHOST is a virtual representation of a human which learns and unlearns alongside its live host, providing immediate support to those delivering training, improving training performance and providing decision support at multiple levels. In Phase 2 of this innovative and exciting project we developed GHOST to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 in the niche area of Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) training and demonstrated its value in a very successful trial at the Defence Simulation Sensor. Take a look at the project summary here.

Project: “VirtuRail” 3D Visualisation Application

Customer: Transport for London (TfL)

Following the initial delivery of the “VirtuRail” application prototype for TfL we have been working on a number of enhancements. “VirtuRail” creates an immersive real-time 3D representation of a railway using the inputs and outputs from TfL’s Railway Engineering Simulator (RES). The enhancements we have been working on include the ability for users to edit RES data through the application and addition of new rolling stock models.

Project: Virtual 3D Environments for Driving Simulation

Customer: AutoSim

We are delighted to have been working with the innovative Norwegian company, AutoSim, for whom we have now delivered a couple of virtual 3D environments for use within their driving simulation software. One project consisted of 12km x 4km urban grid road network which was used by Leeds University in a truck driving simulator for research into the safety of cyclists. We also produced a generic Thailand driving environment including urban, suburban, countryside and mountainous regions.

As you can probably expect, all of that and more has kept us very busy indeed and the upcoming 12 months are sure to be no different with some exciting plans looking forward. We have several new projects in the pipeline, including an Innovate UK project titled WindTwin that will increase the ease with which wind turbines can be monitored, inspected and maintained using a “Digital Twin”. Alongside that, we are in the process of creating a new company website to show more of the work we do and we have several ongoing research projects in the areas of Virtual Reality, 3D visualisation and virtual environment generation. So, it’s sure to be an exciting year ahead – stay up to date with what we’re up to by following us on Twitter and LinkedIn and feel free to get in touch via our office number, 01438 488066 or email info@agility3.co.uk.
